Our Rooftop Sky Garden Takes Root

We’re delighted to share our brand new Sky Garden, now installed on our rooftop playground at Crown Street Primary.

Originally created for the 2026 Manchester Flower Festival by the Cloud Gardener, Jason Williams, the garden featured on King Street over the May bank holiday weekend before being donated and relocated to our school as a permanent green space for our pupils.

Inspired by the National Trust’s Sky Gardening Challenge, the project shows how even small city spaces can be turned into thriving, nature-filled areas.

Ahead of the festival, our pupils shared their own imaginative design ideas, helping to shape the concept before it was brought to life. They also enjoyed lessons with Jason on biodiversity and seed sowing.

Following the festival, the garden began a new chapter at our school. Last Saturday, staff, families and volunteers came together to build the garden on our rooftop, creating something truly special for our community.

For many of our children, this will be an important first connection to nature. The space will support learning, wellbeing and play for years to come.

We would like to say a huge thank you to Jason Williams, Manchester Flower Festival, and everyone who donated their time, materials and expertise to make this possible. We look forward to developing the Sky Garden further with Jason in the months ahead.
