Welcome to Autumn Term in Year 2
As we enter the Autumn term of a new year, our aim continues to be for your children to become confident learners and to carry their love of learning throughout their lives.
We will continue to strive to make your child’s experience in education special, continuing to develop their relationship with their teacher and learning support assistants, who will support them and ensure that their emotional and academic needs are met daily.
We will continue to learn and explore our six Character Traits as we move through this term and our new Curriculum Bookshelf.
Autumn Bookshelf
The inspirational texts on our Autumn Bookshelf will inspire learning across the curriculum. The books chosen highlight the importance of integrity and kindness, encouraging our children to act with honesty and empathy in every situation. They also illustrate the strength that comes from citizenship, both in standing up for what is right and in fostering a sense of community. Through tales of courage and gratitude, these books remind us that even the smallest acts can spark meaningful change, and that by embracing these values, we all have the potential to make a difference.
Our discoveries don’t stop there as we will utilise a variety of non-fiction texts to learn more about lifecycles, habitats and the worlds continents and oceans. In History we will delve into the lives of influential women in history through the book, GreatWomen in History. The children will learn about the magnificent journey of Harriet Tubman and the bravery shown by the suffragettes in the fight for women’s rights.
| Autumn term learning at a glance … In Maths, we will … continue to build on our knowledge of place value and apply a range of strategies to solve calculations and reasoning problems. In English, we will … develop our sentence-writing skills, including expanded noun phrases to make our writing more detailed and engaging. We will then apply this by writing for a range of purposes. In Science, we will focus on animals’ needs for survival and exploring different materials. In History, we will … explore people who changed the world. In Geography, we will … explore what the Earth’s continents and oceans are. In Art, we will … develop our drawing and painting skills, along with exploring the work of Hundertwasser. In PE, we will … focus on developing our gymnastics skills, along with building games skills. Important Information
- Our team will be available every day before and after school to discuss your child’s day, receive messages and celebrate successes
- Your child’s book bag should be brought to school each day – this will contain a Shared Reader, Library Book and a Reading Record
- Library day is Friday – so please bring these books in on this day for changing
- PE day is Monday– please send your child to school in their full PE kit on this day
- Home Learning will include daily reading, weekly spelling and alternate Maths or Writing
- Please ensure all clothing items are labelled
- Important information will be shared via MCAS communication and our weekly school newsletter
- At the end of the day children are dismissed directly to parents/carers. Should there be any changes to this, please inform our Admin team before the end of the day so the Class Teacher knows who to look out for.
