Prospectus

Applying for a Reception place for September 2026

The Laurus Trust is the Admissions Authority for Crown Street Primary School. The co-ordination and administration of admissions for entry is undertaken by the Local Authority, Manchester City Council.

For more information about admissions to Reception please visit the Council’s Primary School Admissions webpage. The deadline for applications for a Reception place in 2026/27 is 15th January 2026. The school’s Admissions Policy and information about the Manchester admissions process can be found at the bottom of this page.

In Year Applications

As Crown Street Primary School is a brand-new school, opening one year group at a time, there is currently only the possibility for mid-year admissions for the year groups we currently have – Reception and Year 1.

The process of In Year admissions is co-ordinated by Manchester City Council as our local authority. Please visit the Council’s In Year Admissions webpage for more information.

Applying for a Pre-School place at Crown Street

Visit our Pre-School page for details of how to apply for a place at Crown Street Primary Pre-School. There is a separate admissions process and policy to admissions for a place in Reception.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I apply?

Applications are made to the Local Authority in which you reside. The applications process opens in August and the deadline is mid-January for starting school in the following September. For Manchester residents, please click on this link: Manchester City Council – How to apply for a Reception place.

How does the admissions criteria work?

The school has 30 Reception places. If more than 30 applications are received, priority will be given to children in accordance with the oversubscription criteria which can be found in the Admissions Policy below. If a tie-break is necessary to determine which children are admitted, then children living nearest the school will be given priority. Crown Street Primary School does not have a catchment area.

How will I be told if my application is successful?

You will be informed by email on National Offer Day in mid April.

What happens if my application is unsuccessful?

All parents/carers have a statutory right of appeal to an Independent Appeal Panel. More information about the appeals process can be found in the Admissions Policy below.

Do you have a waiting list?

Yes, following an unsuccessful application, parents/carers can ask for their child’s name to be placed on the waiting list. Vacant places will be allocated to children on the waiting list in accordance with the oversubscription criteria, which can be found in the Admissions Policy.

What is the difference between a Free School and a Local Authority School?

Free schools are funded by the government but are not run by the local authority, so they have more control over how they do things. Local authority schools are run by the local council and follow the national curriculum.
